UAE ranked 4th most attractive retail market

The UAE climbed to fourth position among the most attractive retail markets globally, on the back of retail sales growing at five per cent and annual sales crossing $66 billion, according to a recent report.

The A T Kearney Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) was highlighted in connection with the 29thInternational Autumn Trade Fair (IATF), now branded as ‘Smart Living’, a top consumer goods trade fair that will open on December 1 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Satish Khanna, general manager of Al Fajer Information and Services, organiser of the fair, said that the UAE’s rapidly growing GDP makes it a strong retail market supported by ambitious long-term plans.

“The UAE has a head-start of a quarter of a century in the region’s retail industry and Dubai has become the turning platform and the undisputed must-be-present market for almost all international retailers.”

The event will provide a platform for international manufacturers, suppliers, traders, exporters,and brand owners to reach out to their incumbent and potential stakeholders.

“With plans to launch Mall of the World in place and the current expanding retail space across the Emirate, Dubai is raising the competition bar to a whole new level. The Smart Living show is putting on display a wide range of consumer goods that will not only boost the shopping movement in the Emirate but also initiative huge retail deals on the exhibition floor,” said Khanna.

Rupashree Singh, exhibition manager, said that the fair has extended many lucrative opportunities in the last 28 years to international manufacturers to make a strong foothold in these markets.  

The support has been received from exhibitors from UAE, Iran, UK, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Turkey, Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, Thailand, India and welcomes new entrants from Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC)-India, Japan, Russia, Armenia, Astrakhan, and Switzerland.

Smart Living covers sectors like houseware, cookware and kitchenware, bakeware, tableware, bed and bath products, and leather goods.

The exhibition also covers gifts, novelties, stationery, toys, games, watches, clocks, antiques and handicrafts, arts and crafts, carpets, rugs, curtains and lines, fashion, footwear, jewellery and accessories, cosmetics and beauty, fabrics, textiles and haberdashery, home textiles, pictures, frames, paintings, wall arts and hangings, planters, pots and fountains, decorative lights, lighting and lamps, artificial flowers and plants, curios and giveaways, as well as handles and clocks.

“Smart Living provides a meeting point for consumers, retail houses, wholesalers, franchise owners, supermarket chains, traders and business owners in the entire GCC and Mena region, to boost business collaborations,” Khanna added. - TradeArabia News Service
