Souq.com unveils ‘White Friday’ deals

DUBAI, November 26, 2014

Souq.com, a leading online retailer in the Middle East, has released a sneak peak of deals for ‘Black Friday’, now coined ‘White Friday’ by the retailers.

The deals will be on offer on its site on November 27 and 28, while mobile app users will have access to only few of these deals, said a statement.

It includes products from the likes of Apple, Samsung, Sony, LG, Huawei, Microsoft, Nokia Lumia, Mini from AGMC, Lenovo, Motorola, Infinix, InnJoo, Archos, Du, Etisalat, and Intel Ctroniq.

Meanwhile, the site has launched a White Friday sales preview, in partnership with PepsiCo, which will only be accessible exclusively through the Souq.com mobile app starting today (November 26).

Ronaldo Mouchawar, chief executive officer and co-founder of Souq.com, said: “Mobile is booming in this region, and in the UAE, we have the highest smartphone penetration in the world, with almost three smartphones per person. On Souq.com, we see a much higher conversion rate on mobile than desktop, and we’ve launched this mobile preview with Pepsi in a bid to reward our mobile consumer.”

Carla Hassan, chief marketing officer and vice president - Marketing at PepsiCo Middle East and Africa, said: “We are thrilled about our strategic partnership with Souq.com and are excited about the unlimited opportunities White Friday has to offer. We are always keen to bring our brands closer to our consumers. Being where consumers are online to offer them the best of PepsiCo through the biggest e-commerce hub in the Mena region, is a powerful proposition”.

Over the course of the three-day sales period, Souq.com is expecting 10 million visits, and is offering more than 250,000 items on a special discount for this event, said the statement.

The site has also signed an exclusive partnership with MasterCard, through which consumers who make a purchase using their MasterCard credit card will receive a further 15 per cent discount on all deals, it said.

“During White Friday, we will of course still be offering cash on delivery; COD currently accounts for over 70 per cent of payments on our site. However, we are seeing a shift towards credit card usage, as consumers in this region are starting to become more comfortable with online payments. We’ve developed the partnership with MasterCard to further shift the needle towards credit card payments online,” Mouchwar added. - TradeArabia News Service
