Bahrain’s first Ikea store is expected to open next year.

Ikea to open first Bahrain outlet by next year

MANAMA, May 19, 2015

Swedish home furniture giant Ikea is expected to open its first outlet in Bahrain next year, it has emerged.

The store will be opened by the Ghassan Al Sulaiman Development Company, which operates the Saudi Arabia branches, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It has previously been reported that a 30,000-sq-m Ikea outlet would open in Manama.

“As we continue our strategy for solid long-term growth that includes expansion in both existing and new markets, we are excited about opening a new Ikea store in Bahrain,” said Ikea Saudi Arabia public relations and events specialist Mohammad Syed.

“Venturing into new markets only reaffirms our commitment to creating a better everyday life for many people.

“The Bahrain Ikea store is currently under development, which is expected to be completed and aimed for opening in 2016.”

Three Ikea outlets already existing in Saudi Arabia are located in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran.

However, there are plans to open as many as 10 more stores over the next few years, Ikea Saudi Arabia chief executive Saud Ghassan Al Sulaiman said last year.

Meanwhile, responding to anticipation from shoppers in Bahrain, Syed said the company was looking forward to opening its debut Ikea store in the country.

“Glad that Bahrain and its people are already excited,” he said. “We are even more excited.”

The GDN previously reported that the first Ikea store was expected to open in Bahrain in 2014, but the project was delayed. - TradeArabia News Service
