Saudia is well-known for its retail business model with a number of supermarkets, hypermarkets, bakeries and shopping avenues in Qatar, it said.

Established in 1988, the group has grown to become a household name in Qatar with the number of supermarkets under its banner having proliferated over the years.

Venturing out of the home ground for the first time the brand is looking forward to increasing its footprint across the region by expanding into the UAE.

Kenz Hypermarket, Supermarket and Departmental Stores are business units under the umbrella of Saudia Group.

The conglomerate has invested Dh80 million ($21.7 million) into the venture in Ajman.

The 160,000 square feet facility will offer a variety of products like mobiles, cameras and furniture, cosmetics, luggage, toys along with a wide variety of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG).

N K Musthafa, chairman, said: “We are very pleased to venture into the UAE which is an extremely promising market for growth. Our aim is to take our quality food and lifestyle products to a wider expanse of consumers across the region. Our retail operations has seen a steady growth in Qatar and we are positive that UAE, with its vibrant economy and large avenues for hypermarkets, will be a highly opportune market for us. Over the years, we have achieved great success owing to our 1000 strong employees and faithful customers.

“Ajman offers the perfect launch pad for us in the UAE. We are looking at expanding into other Emirates in the near future. Although the country has a large number of supermarkets and hypermarkets, the business potential for department stores here is growing vigorously.”

“The secret behind the success of the chain is in understanding needs of the customers and providing them with quality products at great pricing,” he said.

Backed by the ability to source out quality products from suppliers around the world, the group has been successful in securing bargain prices owing to economies of scale, the statement added. - TradeArabia News Service
