Bahrain POS transactions up 10% in August

MANAMA, September 14, 2020

The number of POS (point of sale) transactionsin Bahrain rose 10% to 6,858,807 in August 2020, compared to the same month in 2019, Central Bank of Bahrain data showed.
 
However, the number of transactions declined 4.1% compared to July 2020.
 
The value of transactions was BD186.2 million in August 2020, a drop of 6.1% compared to August 2019 (BD198.3 million). The value was down 5.2% compared to July 2019 (BD196.5 million), the data showed.
 
Restaurants, Supermarkets, Department stores, Health facilities and clothing and footwear were the top five sectors in terms of POS transaction numbers. While restaurants showed a monthly rise of 1.7% in transactions, clothing and footwear dropped 26.5%.
 
In terms of value, Government services (BD50.3 million) and Department stores (BD20.6 million) were the two top sectors, the data said. - TradeArabia News Service
