EIMA signs up Lloyds Register for marine courses
Dubai

Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA) has signed a MoU with Lloyds Register to collaborate on offering maritime programs in addition to organising maritime seminars and workshops in the UAE.

Under the agreement, EIMA and Lloyds Register will jointly offer and develop maritime courses in the fields of security, safety and ship classifications in addition to organising maritime seminars and workshops.

The MoU was signed by captain Jaafar Sidin, director of DMC Campus and EIMA and John Curley, senior vice president- marine of Lloyds Register for MEA.

The partnership has been part of EIMA's strategy to enhance collaboration with maritime companies and leading academic institutions in the region to exchange knowledge and expertise, said Sidin.

The MoU also includes collaborative efforts to establish the “Marine Centre of Excellence” within Dubai Maritime City Campus (DMC Campus).

'We are working continually to expand and enhance the number of different subjects and quality of the courses available at the EIMA in the region. With this new partnership, we aim to match the increasing demands of the maritime sector in the region by providing maritime security and safety programs and specialised maritime seminars and workshops,' Sidin noted.

Among the courses that will be covered by the MoU include International Maritime Safety Management Code (ISM), risk management, and International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), in addition to courses in tanker safety, he added.

John Curley said Dubai Maritime City has been conceptualised to be the next-generation standard in maritime development.

'We consider it an honour to be part of this groundbreaking project and look forward to collaborating with EIMA in providing a top-of-the-line maritime training program that will help keep the region in pace with the latest world maritime developments.'

'Lloyds’ Register has an unparalleled record in supporting marine industry academic and training institutions world-wide. We are very proud to have been invited to support EIMA at this exciting time for the development of shipping in the UAE,' he observed.

EIMA has been established by Dubai Maritime City Authority to provide marine-oriented academic programs, serving as a world-class training ground for future professionals in the maritime sector.

The academy is based within DMC Campus, the region's first-of-its-kind maritime educational campus that will be able to accommodate over 1,300 students and will host several world-renowned universities and institutes.

The Lloyds Register is globally renowned for its expertise in safety and technical compliance. The company verifies that assets and systems utilised by organisations worldwide are in proper working condition, ensuring smooth delivery of services and workflow in various work environments.-TradeArabia News Service
