Tourism sector aims to boost green credentials
Dubai, June 5, 2008
With demand for accreditation around the world increasing, EC3 Global has appointed Hyder Consulting as the first international company to be trained as auditors of the Green Globe Company Standard.
EC3 Global is a subsidiary of the Sustainable Tourism Co-operative Research Centre - the world’s largest provider of travel and tourism research and managers of Green Globe.
This new partnership is a natural extension of the work Hyder Consulting has already undertaken in the area of the environment which includes impact assessments for major tourism developments in countries such as UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.
Green Globe is the international Benchmarking and Certification programme for the travel and tourism industry based on the Agenda 21 principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 Heads of State at the United Nations Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
Hyder Consulting’s regional managing director, Rod Stewart, said, 'Sustainable tourism is at the core of Middle East regional development planning, and I am delighted that Hyder Consulting continues to demonstrate its international credentials in this area.'
'The company will continue to incorporate sustainability in everything we do and in doing so will help to shape a bright future for the region.'
In July 2007 Novotel Hotel Group and European leader, entered into an agreement with EC3 Globe to have all of their 400 properties certified under the Green Globe Company Standard by 2010.
EC3 CEO, Stewart Moore, said Novotel’s involvement in the Green Globe programme would help set new environmental standards for the hospitality industry and its relationship with Hyder Consulting will provide access to a network of professional and highly skilled auditors to provide the third party independent verification.
Hyder Consulting’s recent partnership with Green Globe will help elevate environmental standards to new heights throughout the world for many years to come.-TradeArabia News Service
