New water park at Bahrain City Centre
Manama , August 20, 2008
Multimillion dinar indoor-outdoor water park and a cinema complex will be open at the Bahrain City Centre by spring next year, it was announced.
The centre is being developed and managed by MAF, which is part of Majid Al Futtaim group.
The 15,000sqm sub-tropical paradise theme park will feature a variety of attractions, out of which 70 per cent will be indoor, making it the largest in the Middle East, officials told the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.
It will have a climate control facility for the temperature of the park and water, which will allow it to be open throughout the year, they said.
Some of the rides include a "flow-rider, master-blaster, side winder, matt racer, wave pool, lazy river, toddler pool, multi- level rain fortress" as well as cafes, restaurants and party rooms.
"We wanted to introduce another unique entertainment element similar to Ski Dubai to the region," said MAF Shopping Mall vice-president Shahram Shamsee. The water park will be such a striking feature that it will attract a lot of attention and footfall to Bahrain."
Meanwhile, a BD6 million ($16 million) 20-screen cinema complex will open in an area of 8,000sqm, with wall-to-wall screens. The complex will also be available for private meetings or conferences.
The Bahrain City Centre is expected to be open for public within the next month, featuring an indoor amusement park Magic Planet, a galleria where shows and concerts will be held, 50 outlets, and two international four- and five-star hotels managed by Kempinski offering 550 rooms.
It will feature international brands like SAKS 5th Avenue, Paris Gallery, Zara and Mango as well as a 16,000 sqm Carrefour hypermarket.
Other outlets include 11 coffee shops, 13 restaurants, 21 food court units and nine smaller outlets serving juice and ice cream.-TradeArabia News Service
