Air France, KLM announce new baggage rules

Manama, April 5, 2010

Air France and KLM have announced new baggage rules under which passengers can check in free of charge up to three bags (weighing 23kg each) depending on the cabin class.

The new measure, the airlines said, is aimed at simplifying the travel procedures.

Air France and KLM are extending their hold baggage transport rules that already apply for passengers travelling between Europe and the US and Canada to the rest of the network, said a statement.

'Before, two different rules existed depending on the destination (piece concept or weight concept). From now on, only the piece concept will be used for all tickets issued as from March 28, 2010,' KLM said in a statement.

The First class customers travelling from Bahrain to New York on KLM can carry three bags with a total weight of 69 kg (each bag of 23kg),' said the statement.

Business class passengers travelling from Bahrain to London on KLM can also carry three bags (each of 23kg).

Economy class passengers can carry one bag also weighing 23 kg. They will be charged $55 for the second bag.

However, on Economy class, the customer travelling from Bahrain to New York on KLM can carry two bags (each of 23kg) without any additional charges, the airline stated.

Flying Blue Elite customers will be allowed to carry an extra bag free, the airline added. -TradeArabia News Service
