Royal Jordanian partners with Malaysia Airline

Amman, September 26, 2010

Royal Jordanian (RJ) and Malaysia Airline (MH), the national carrier of Malaysia, have signed a unilateral free sale code-share agreement.

As per the agreement, MH is the marketing carrier, placing its code on RJ flights operated on Amman- Kuala Lumpur -Amman sector. The agreement became effective early this month.

“The code-share agreement between RJ and MH is a free flow agreement whereby MH may sell as many seats on Amman- Kuala Lumpur -Amman flights as RJ, with no limitation to the number of seats sold by MH,” said RJ President/CEO Hussein Dabbas.

“The resuming of its regular flights to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, on June 2, after a 7-year suspension in operations between the two countries (which stopped in 2003) due to the weak economic feasibility of the route over the past years; comes as a result of the economic revival and the growth of its commercial activity and tourism.”

“This will offer new opportunities for passengers and will boost the tourism sector as Malaysia is considered a gateway to Southeast Asia, particularly in the economic field where it will serve the traffic of businessmen and students.”

Royal Jordanian operates three flights a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, using its recently introduced Airbus A330s.

Dabbas added that RJ is also preparing to expand its code-share agreement from bilateral to unilateral with British Airways after implementing the Amadeus system in October this year. Next Year, RJ is also planning to introduce new code-share agreements with its oneworld partners.

Royal Jordanian currently has code- share agreements with several international airlines: American Airlines, British Airways, US Airways, Iberia, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Siberia Airlines (S7), Tarom, Gulf Air, Syrian Airlines and Yemen Airways.

“The Middle East is an important business and leisure destination of our passengers. This partnership with Royal Jordanian is aligned with our plans to further expand and strengthen our hub-and-spoke network in this region. It will allow us to capture untapped traffic from Amman, as well as other destinations in the Middle East,” added Malaysia Airlines managing director/CEO, Tengku Dato’ Azmil Zahruddin.

With Kuala Lumpur added to the RJ network, the airline reaches 57 destinations served directly from Amman, in addition to over 700 destinations in almost 150 countries served with its oneworld partners.-TradeArabia News Service
