Lufthansa plans Boeing 747 revamp

Dubai, March 20, 2011

German flagship airline Lufthansa has announced the total revamp of its Boeing 747-400s cabin after setting new standards with First Class service on its A380 flagship last year.

The upgrade is aimed at offering more comfort on the Jumbo with full-length bed in First Class and inflight entertainment in Economy Class, said a Lufthansa statement.

The Boeing 747 will be completely revamped by November, thereby ensuring a quieter and more exclusive atmosphere in the new First Class. Passengers in Business and Economy Class can also look forward to a completely refurbished cabin interior.

Lufthansa is entering new territory with its seating concept for Boeing747. The window seats will be converted into full-length, lie-flat beds with a sleeping surface (over 2 metres in length) and a top-quality mattress, guaranteeing first-class sleeping comfort, it stated.

'Each passenger in the new First Class cabin will thus not only have a seat but also a separate bed. Sound-absorbing curtains and sound-deadening insulation beneath the carpet will ensure that passengers enjoy the necessary peace and quiet,' it said.

Lufthansa said the individual inflight entertainment programme on new, 17-inch monitors will also provide soothing relaxation.

'Besides the interior design and fittings, the First Class standard includes comfort items such as temperature-regulating blankets and pillows and the amenity kit from Porsche Design containing cosmetic articles from La mer,' it said.

The Business and Economy Class cabins on the Boeing 747-400 are also being refurbished. The entrance area will be revamped in the latest design, and new lavatories will be installed, according to the German airline.

'In Economy Class, passengers can put together their own entertainment programme on their individual monitors. They can choose from a wide range of feature films in as many as eight language versions, popular TV series and fascinating documentaries.'

In addition to the on-screen service information about the flight, passengers have a choice of radio programmes and music channels, and there is also a special children’s programme, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
