Emirates renews Greek association sponsorship

Dubai, December 8, 2011

UAE-based Emirates has renewed its sponsorship with Olympiacos FC, the Greek association football club which is a part of Olympiacos CFP, based in Piraeus, highlighting its ongoing commitment yo Greece and to sports around the world.

The airline will partner with the club for another two seasons, and the renewal will include the ‘Fly Emirates’ signage displayed at the Karaiskaki stadium, the home of Olympiacos, as well as promotional and hospitality rights, a statement from the airline company said.

The announcement comes after Tuesday’s bout with Arsenal, Emirates’ biggest football club, at the UEFA Champions League Match in Athens.

Olympiacos is the most successful club in Greek football history, having won 38 League titles, 24 Greek Cups and 4 Greek Super Cups. The club has a fan base of almost two and a half million fans in Greece alone, the statement said.

“This sponsorship with Olympiacos underlines Emirates’ commitment to sports fans worldwide, but especially to our customers in Greece,” said Salem Obaidallah, Emirates’ senior vice president commercial operations, Europe and Russian Federation. “Our partnership with such an acclaimed football team that so many of our customers are passionate about helps to bring Emirates closer to football enthusiasts in Greece and around the world.”

“The sponsorship renewal means that our global commitment to football is reflected at a local level too,” said Terence Flynn, Emirates manager Greece.

“Emirates has invested in sponsorship agreements with football federations such as Fifa and clubs such as Real Madrid, Arsenal and Milan. It is indicative that Olympiacos has been included in such a strategic plan proving that we offer a very competitive communication platform, unique for the Greek sports market,” said Yiannis Vrentzos, managing director of Olympiacos.

Emirates’ football sponsorship portfolio also includes Arsenal, HSV, PSG, AC Milan, Real Madrid, the Asian Football Confederation and the Saudi Professional League.

Aside from European football club sponsorships, the airline is also an official partner of the Fifa World Cup, the official airline of 12 golf tournaments internationally and supports a range of high-profile horse racing, tennis, rugby, sailing, and cricket events across the globe, the statement said.

The airline has carried 900,000 passengers in the last five years, fostering trade and tourism connections between the UAE and Greece.

Despite the challenges of the global economic downturn, the value of Greek exports to the UAE has risen by over 27 percent in 2010, compared to a similar period in 2009 with a total of €137 million, according to the Hellenic Business Council in Dubai. – TradeArabia News Service
