Accor to open 30 hotels in Mideast in 3 years
Dubai, February 27, 2014
Accor Middle East, a leading hotel operator in the region, is set to open 30 hotels with over 7,000 rooms over the next three years in the region.
The company's Middle East network currently includes 60 hotels comprising more than 14,000 rooms, it said at its annual Middle East Road Show.
It discussed new opportunities within the travel industry and updated its regional travel industry leaders on Accor’s brands, properties, products and offers during the roadshow.
This comes in light of the group’s significant 2013 achievements, which has seen it open 170 hotels with 23,000 rooms, said a statement.
The region is experiencing a period of strong growth with current estimates of more than $3 trillion being pumped directly into leisure and tourism and indirectly into supporting infrastructure, according to recent research.
By 2020, there will be airport capacity for an extra 300 million passengers, more than 200 new hotels and 100,000 additional rooms. Visitor numbers are expected to reach 150 million, with Expo 2020 accounting to over 25 million visitors in the six months between October 2020 and April 2021, it said.
Christophe Landais, managing director, said: “These statistics support Accor’s growth strategy in the Middle East where we have 30 hotels in the pipeline over the next three years. 2014 commenced with the opening of Novotel Fujairah, and will see Accor introduction in the Northern Emirates, followed by the launch of ‘Adagio’ - a new brand of apartments-hotel in the region. The first apartments-hotel, Adagio Al Bustan, will open in the first quarter.”
“The roadshow was well attended by hoteliers from Bahrain, Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, KSA, Morocco, Netherland, Oman, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE and US,” said Philippe Seguin, vice president of sales, distribution and marketing.
“It was held in Jeddah, Riyadh, and for the first time in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where we have strong hotels opening this year”, he added.
“The workshop included a series of industry forums, business meetings with major corporate and leisure agencies, as well as presented an opportunity to speak about our newly launched accorhotels.com Arabic website.” - TradeArabia News Service
