Bahrain's new airport site revealed

Manama, March 27, 2014

The site for Bahrain's proposed new airport will be near Fasht Al Jarim, it was revealed yesterday.

The announcement came as Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa chaired a meeting of the ministerial committee for services and infrastructure, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

He asserted that the plan to have a modern airport reflected the leadership’s desire to develop the country’s infrastructure, particularly the civil aviation sector.

The next phase will focus on preparing detailed studies for the project including links with road, water, electricity and GCC railway networks.

Meanwhile, the $900 million Bahrain International Airport development project will be implemented by year-end.

The project, to be financed by the GCC Development Programme, will help meet requirements until work on the new airport project is completed, Shaikh Khalid said. - TradeArabia News Service
