Bahrain airport traffic soars during F1

Bahrain International Airport (BIA) handled an increased number of passenger and cargo movements during the just concluded Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2014, a statement said.

Over 300 tons of racing equipment was received and handled in a secure and efficient manner between March 30 and  April 7, said the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) statement.

On the passenger front, the airport also witnessed an increase in traffic during the same period. In addition to the normal scheduled flights, 30 private jets were received carrying Formula 1 drivers and VIP guests.

"BIA’s performance during the Formula 1 week was essential in the realisation of the world-renowned event and painted a positive image of Bahrain on a global scale. BAC worked closely with its partners in the private and public sectors to streamline passenger and cargo movements, greatly contributing towards the success of this sporting event," it said.

Mohammed Thamir Al Kaabi, vice president of airport operations at BAC, thanked the staff and partners for their collaborative efforts in providing an excellent passenger experience and smooth cargo movement. - TradeArabia News Service
