Mideast, Africa hotel sector 'booming'

The Middle East and Africa hospitality market is witnessing solid growth with a total of 137,800 hotel rooms under construction in the region, said a report.

The UAE and Saudi are spearheading the hotel rooms construction activity in the region, reported The Emirates 24/7, citing STR Global's data for April.

There are 581 hotels in the construction phase in the MEA region, housing 137,800 rooms with nearly 33,000 are in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Of the countries in the region, the UAE has the biggest number of rooms under construction totalling 16,762, stated the report.

The other countries to report a significant number of rooms under construction include: Saudi Arabia (16,336 rooms); Qatar (5,757 rooms); Egypt (2,966 rooms); Morocco (2,466 rooms); and Jordan (2,438 rooms), the report added.
