Hospitality sector employs 16pc Bahrainis

Bahrainis make up 16 per cent of workforce in the hospitality sector, a report quoting offical data said.
 
According to 2013 statistics, hotels employ 11,654 people, of whom 1,892 are Bahrainis, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
 
Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan released the figures as he patronised a ceremony to honour hospitality companies which have won the Bahrainisation and Training Award for 2013.
 
A total of 6,952 people work in restaurants, of whom 760 are Bahrainis, thus making 11 per cent of the overall number. Bakeries employ 122 Bahrainis, which is 13 per cent of the total workforce which stands at 908.
 
The minister stressed the contribution of the hospitality industry to the gross domestic product, urging Bahraini jobseekers to seize opportunities in this vital sector.
 
He presented certificates to 15 establishments, including hotels, restaurants, catering companies and bakeries which have provided jobs to women. He also honoured 82 employees who served a minimum of 10 years in the hospitality sector. - TradeArabia News Service
