Bahrain hotels to offer 20pc discount

All five and four star hotels in Bahrain will be offering a 20 per cent discount until the end of the year in a bid to boost tourism, it has been revealed.
 
Culture Ministry archaeology and heritage director Shaikh Khalid bin Hamoud Al Khalifa said the move by the hospitality sector aims to back Bahrain as a tourist hub in the region.
 
"All five and four star hotels in the country will offer a 20 per cent to residents and visitors as part of our strategy to boost tourism," he said.
 
Line-up
 
Shaikh Khalid was speaking during a press conference last night (July 6), which was held at Bab Al Bahrain Mall to announce the line-up of performances for the sixth Bahrain Summer Festival that will be held under the theme "Summer of Colours".
 
This year's summer celebrations are part of Manama being named Capital of Asian Tourism and will run from July 31 to August 30.
 
It will feature a series of spectacular cultural, artistic and musical shows including a performance by award-winning Iraqi crossover artist Ilham Al Madfai, who will take to the stage on August 13 and 14 at the Cultural Hall.
 
Other main attractions include a concert by Chico and the Gypsies - the latest project of Jahloul "Chico" Bouchiki who was co-founder of legendary band The Gipsy Kings - on August 26 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Conference Centre (BIECC) along with shows by high-voltage international street dance sensation Blaze on August 16 and 17.
 
"The Bahrain Summer Festival keeps getting bigger and better," said Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, who was present at the press conference.
 
"Through it, we are engaging with the world through culture in all its forms, and sowing the seeds of joy in everyone it touches."
 
The festival will kick off with a Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy show, which will run from July 31 to August 2 at the BIECC.
 
It is inspired by nature and brought to life by an international cast of aerialists, contortionists, acrobats, jugglers and musicians, with spectacular costumes and visual effects that will bring the jungle setting to life.
 
Special programmes for children will be held including Dora the Explorer and her friends in Dora's Pirate Adventure from August 7 to 10, and new UAE produced show Freej Abood's Dream from August 21 to 24 at the BIECC.
 
Workshops
 
Children can also take part in a variety of workshops with artists from across the globe focusing on entertainment, learning and development.
 
Meanwhile, Shaikha Mai thanked Bahrain City Centre for its sponsorship and support.
 
The festival's gold media sponsors are the Information Affairs Authority, Channel TV5 Monde, Your FM, Al Bilad and Al Wasat newspapers, Rotana magazine, Food and Travel and Weekender.
