Bahrain airport's passenger traffic soars 25pc

A 25 per cent increase in passenger traffic has been recorded at Bahrain International Airport in August compared to a year ago.

A total of 825,903 passengers have travelled through the airport so far this year, which has seen Gulf Air launch new destinations such as Trivandrum in India and Sialkot in Pakistan, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The national carrier has also increased the number of its flights to key airports in the GCC such as Al Maktoum International Airport and Dubai International Airport, Doha, Kuwait, Jeddah and Riyadh.

Its network to destinations such as Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar was also expanded.

In addition, a number of new carriers including Pegasus Airlines, Zagros Airlines, and Taban Air, have launched regular services to Bahrain International Airport, while other carriers such as Iran Air and Iraqi Airways resumed operations to Bahrain.

The summer season saw a rise in travel to major holiday destinations and many airlines recorded higher numbers of passengers to these destinations.

A statement by the Transportation Ministry's Civil Aviation Affairs said the airport is expected to see continued growth in passenger traffic till the end of the year. - TradeArabia News Service
