Jazeera Airways witnesses an increase in passengers

Jazeera passenger numbers up 26pc

KUWAIT, October 13, 2014

Jazeera Airways, a Kuwait-based low-cost airline, witnessed a 26 per cent increase in the number of passengers during August this year, compared to the same period last year, the airline said.

The airline also saw a 19 per cent increase in passengers on routes serving Istanbul, Turkey; Beirut, Lebanon; and Amman, Jordan, in August, it said.

The increase in passengers was driven by the summer holiday season, as well as by the change made on the Kuwait-Istanbul route to serve Istanbul’s primary airport, Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST) with five flights a week, the airline said in its operational performance report.

The report shows that the airline grabbed an 8 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Istanbul route, a 37 per cent share on the Kuwait-Beirut route, and a 35 per cent share on the Kuwait-Amman route.

August was also a high-demand month following the Holy month of Ramadan. The airline’s routes serving Gulf cities also saw a 29 per cent increase in passengers compared to the same period last year.

The airline grabbed a 14 per cent share on the Kuwait-Dubai route, a 10 per cent share on the Kuwait-Bahrain route, a 22 per cent share on the Kuwait-Jeddah route, and a 12 per cent share on the Kuwait-Riyadh route.

The airline also saw an increase in passengers on all routes serving Egypt during August, mainly driven by the summer holiday season. The increase in passengers from August 2013 was 36 per cent, despite the Assiut International Airport being closed for renovation since June 2014.

The airline led on the route serving Egyptian cities like Luxor, with a 64 per cent share, and grabbed a 35 per cent share on the Kuwait-Cairo route (a 9 per cent increase from August 2013), a 19 per cent share on the Kuwait-Alexandria route, a 46 per cent share on the Kuwait-Sohag route and a 55 per cent share on the Kuwait-Sharm El Sheikh, the report stated. – TradeArabia News Service
