Lulashnyk...Canada eager to start investing

Canada to pump $2bn into Egypt hospitality sector

CAIRO, April 28, 2015

Canada is looking to inject finance into Egypt’s economy with the recent signing of a $2 billion hospitality project deal with City Stars properties, the region's leading real estate developer, said a report.

With considerable improvements in the region’s investment climate and stabilisation of the country’s security situation, Canadian companies pouring the investments are eager to start, said a report in Daily News Egypt citing Canadian Ambassador to Egypt Troy Lulashnyk.

In all, agreements worth $7 billion were signed between the two countries including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth $5 billion by Canada-based SkyPower, International Gulf Development (IGD) and the government of Egypt for the provision 3000 MW of solar power to the region.

Furthermore, Canada will provide a total of $10 million over a two-year period to support the World Food Programme’s School Feeding for Host Communities project in Egypt. It also aims to provide access and increase retention rates for more than 195,000 Syrian refugee children and Egyptians, in public preschools and primary schools, the report said.

Canada is looking to tap into the fields of oil and gas, education, agriculture, and the health sector in the region, providing investments and technical expertise to further develop the various segments.
