Al Marzouqi...monitoring Etihad's safety and quality management systems

Etihad appoints new VP corporate safety and quality

ABU DHABI, May 24, 2015

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has appointed Emirati national Captain Majed Al Marzouqi as its new vice president for corporate safety and quality.

Al Marzouqi joined Etihad Airways in 2010 as an A330 pilot, later moving to the airline’s safety department where he has held a number of senior roles including senior manager flight safety and head of safety performance.

In the new role, Al Marzouqi will be responsible for the overall performance of the safety and quality management systems, including the management of safety risks related to aircraft operations as well as occupational health and safety.

He takes over the role from Paolo La Cava who has joined the management team of Etihad Airways’ strategic partner Alitalia.

Richard Hill, Etihad Airways’ chief operations officer, said:  “We’re proud to have in Majed Al Marzouqi, an Emirati national who has worked his way from senior first officer to vice president corporate safety and quality.”

“Capt Majed brings considerable knowledge and in-depth experience to this crucial role which is at the heart of our business. We are confident he will build on our industry leading safety management systems and safety track record.”

Etihad Airways has received widespread praise for its UAE national development strategy aimed at building airline specific capability for the future.

Ray Gammell, Etihad Airways’ chief people and performance officer, said: “The development of our UAE national staff is very important to the airline.”

“Our UAE national development strategy is centred on offering the best possible learning and development opportunities to Emiratis and providing meaningful rewards to those who excel, including career progression.”

“Capt. Majed sets an excellent example to Emiratis who set their sights on long, rewarding careers in the airline business. We wish him all the best,” Gammell said. – TradeArabia News Service
