Turkish Airlines profit up 21pc in first nine months

ISTANBUL, November 9, 2015

Turkish Airlines has reported a net profit $877 million during the first nine months of the year, registering 21 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period last year.

The airline also recorded a 29 per cent jump in operating profit to $1.27 billion in the first nine months of the year, while sales revenue dipped 6 per cent to $8.54 billion during the same period.

Pointing to the operational cash generation ability, Turkish Airlines EBITDAR margin for the nine months of 2015 increased 5.5 percentage points and stood at 26.2 per cent.

In the first nine months of 2015 Turkish Airlines realised a capacity increase of 12.6 per cent (available seat km) and carried 46.5 million passengers on its 341,000 flights with a load factor of 79 per cent.

Despite strong competitive environment among the world’s leading players, the political and economical instabilities over its operating environment and significant currency fluctuations, Turkish Airlines continues to generate successful and sustainable results.

Turkish Airlines will move to its new hub at Istanbul New Airport in 2018 with an expected 120 million passengers a year expected to be flying through the new airport by 2020 – 70 million of those on Turkish Airlines. The new airport is currently under development with the first phase expected to open in 2018 and upon completion in 2023 will be one of the world’s largest airports with a capacity to handle 200 million passengers. – TradeArabia News Service
