Abu Dhabi opens new cooling plant at airport

ABU DHABI, January 12, 2016

Abu Dhabi Airports has launched one of the country's biggest district cooling plants at the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) in the Abu Dhabi airport.

With a total capacity of 55,000 metric tons of refrigerant, the district cooling plant will serve Abu Dhabi International Airport's new MTB.

Abu Dhabi Airports CEO Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei and chief programmes officer Sulaiman Al Siksek officially inaugurated the plant today after the system was successfully pressure tested.

It will provide air conditioning for the MTB through 18 chillers and two thermal energy storage tanks.

Speaking at the launch, Al Siksek said: "I am delighted that this major milestone in the MTB's construction has been reached. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of the building's design, demonstrating Abu Dhabi Airports' commitment to being a leader in this field."

"The district cooling system meets rigorous international green building standards and utilises innovative technology to increase energy efficiency and provide sustainable air conditioning for the MTB," he noted.

The district cooling plant provides chilled water from a centralised cooling station, through a network of pipes, for air conditioning purposes, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
