Abu Dhabi hotel occupancy hits 70pc in Q3 2015

ABU DHABI, February 8, 2016

Abu Dhabi’s tourism and hospitality sector continued to experience a positive growth into Q3 2015 with occupancy rates across hotel establishments averaging 70 per cent during the quarter, up 2 per cent from the corresponding period in 2014, said a report.

Average daily rate (ADR) figures across the sector dropped by 8 per cent to Dh398, while revenue-per-available-room (RevPAR) registered a 5 per cent decrease to Dh281 during the same period,  said a report released by PKF Consulting, an international firm of management consultants and industry specialists.

With regards to the recent additions to the hotel establishments’ supply in Abu Dhabi, Q3 witnessed the inauguration of only one property - the 62-key deluxe Jannah Place Abu Dhabi serviced apartments, located in the centre of the capital on Airport Road.

As far as the recent market announcements are concerned, notable projects that were launched during the third quarter of 2015 included the five-star Edition hotel at Abu Dhabi Marina. Scheduled for completion in Q3 2016, the hotel will feature 200 hotel rooms as well as 57 hotel apartments

To deal with the increasing competition across the hospitality sector in Abu Dhabi, many hotel establishments have now started to adopt various marketing strategies aimed at attracting hotel visitors from all market segments. The five-star Jannah Burj Al Sarab hotel at Abu Dhabi’s Al Zahiyah district, for instance, has adopted a new ‘pay as you want’ (PAYW) pricing strategy, which allows customers to evaluate the hotel service and decide how much they would like to pay for their stay. The new marketing strategy, which is valid for specific days and is subject to availability, is an innovative tool used to attract new visitors and increase occupancy rates during low-season periods. – TradeArabia News Service
