New business park, mall project to open in Oman

MUSCAT, April 26, 2016

A top official at Omran, Oman's tourism development and investment company, has unveiled that the country is going full steam ahead on its infrastructure development with plans for a major business park and signature mall project set to make headway, said a report.

New investment opportunities will be opened for the business park envisioned as part of its Madinat Al Irfan urban development while contracts for the new mall project are due to be signed shortly, the Oman Daily Observer reported.

“We are launching the Business Park in the next month or so, and we also have in that area 20 to 30 development plots for immediate investment — either residential, hotels, or high quality office developments,” the Omaran CEO James Wilson, said. “We also have significant interest coming out of big retailers in Dubai, and we expect to close the transaction (shortly) and develop the 130,000 sq metre mall project,” he added.

Dubai-based Majid al Futtaim Holding, a leading developer, owner and operator of shopping malls, hotels and mixed-use communities in the Middle East and North Africa, is expected to invest in the regional mall.

The upscale Madinat Al Irfan project will be located on a site near the Muscat International Airport, which covers an area of 9 million sq m surrounding the existing Muscat Hills mixed use development.

"Phase 1 of the project is currently under development," Wilson said.

“We are putting about $800 million into that project, which will be the second largest project in Muscat after the new airport project. Around 30 plots of land are fully serviced with connections to the Internet, district cooling, electricity, water, storage, and so on; So if you’re an investor, they’re all ready to go!”
