Compulsory e-registration for Abu Dhabi Airport passengers

ABU DHABI, June 28, 2016

Abu Dhabi International Airport has made it mandatory for passengers to register their passports for electronic use to improve passenger flow at the facility, said a report citing an announcement made by Abu Dhabi Airports Company.

The announcement comes as about 85,000 people are expected to depart from the airport during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, which starts next Sunday, with July 6, 10 and 11 forecast to be the airport’s busiest days.

According to a report in WAM, travellers with registered passports will be able to use bag drops and proceed through automated airport e-gates.

E-registration counters in the check-in areas have also been set up for travellers to register their travel documents as they wait.

Smart Travel was launched in March to reduce by up to 70 per cent the time taken for a passenger to clear the airport’s security checks.

As part of efforts to ensure a seamless flow of operations, Abu Dhabi Airports has urged passengers to reach the airport three hours before their flight during the busy season.
