, August 1, 2016

Sharjah International Airport welcomed over 5.35 million passengers from January to June, recording a 11.5 per cent jump compared to 4.79 million passengers for the same period last year, said a report.

Furthermore, over 36,000 aircraft movements were registered in the first half of this year, reflecting an increase of 5.74 per cent, compared to 34,000 in the same period last year. The freight handled in the same period of this year was recorded as being more than 92,000 tons, and the Sea-Air cargo was recorded as being more than 6,000 tons, said a report in WAM.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said: "The positive performance in passenger traffic in this period was due to the opening of new airlines and flights to new destinations. It also reflects the attractiveness of the emirate as a business and tourism destination with more passengers choosing Sharjah International Airport as their gateway to the rest of the region and other destinations."
