Visitors at Yas Island

Yas Island reports most successful summer season yet

ABU DHABI, September 21, 2016

Yas Island, one of the region’s top entertainment destinations, is heralding the summer of 2016 as its most successful to date with a record 50 per cent increase in visitor numbers at two key island attractions.

The destination witnessed an unprecedented 600,000 people visiting Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld during summer 2016.

“Yas Island continues to strengthen its reputation both locally and internationally as a world-class, year-round entertainment destination for people of all ages,” said Mohamed Abdulla Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral, “This summer’s success, marked by a record increase in visitors is testament to the appeal of Yas Island’s growing and dynamic collection of attractions and a record we look forward to achieving annually.”

Along with growing awareness both locally and internationally, key factors for the success of Yas Island’s 2016 summer season included the all-new Ferrari World Abu Dhabi with new rides and attractions, the record-breaking Flying Aces rollercoaster, as well as the family-oriented Benno’s Great Race. Both rides launched earlier this year at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, prior to the 2016 summer season.

Yas Island’s Say Yas summer campaign, which will see its final winners announced in the coming days, was yet another key driver in footfall growth as it offered summer visitors spending over Dh500 ($136) at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld or Yas Mall the chance to win one of three Maserati and over Dh3 million ($816,567) worth of prizes.

As supporting partner to the Abu Dhabi Summer Season, Yas Island’s summer 2016 event line-up further boosted Island-wide appeal with new events such as the Arab Comedy Festival; a Bollywood extravaganza; the month-long Fun Nation; ‘The District’, a month-long activation specifically targeted towards teens and young adults and two sets of Eid fireworks to mark both the start of both Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.

News of the record breaking summer also comes ahead of Yas Island’s brand relaunch, which will be revealed during the last week of September, marking the next chapter in the Island’s evolution.

“Yas Island is an aspirational yet accessible destination and this summer’s success is a harbinger for what will be a truly memorable next chapter in the Yas Island story; one we are excited to share with our stakeholders, partners, and importantly, our guests,” added Al Zaabi. - TradeArabia News Service
