Medical tourism tops agenda at Dubai conference

DUBAI, October 3, 2016

Exploring ways to implement a patient centric strategy in the medical tourism industry will headline the second Dubai Health Regulation and Medical Tourism conference, which opens on Tuesday, October 4.

Running till October 5, 2016 at the InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City, the conference will bring together professionals involved in the medical tourism industry to explore the many opportunities for expanding Dubai’s role as a global hub for medical tourism and the development of DXH - DHA’s Dubai Health Experience programme.

The 2016 edition of the conference will be attended by Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, chairman of the Board and director-general of the Dubai Health Authority. The conference will be chaired by Dr. Layla Al Marzouqi, director of Dubai’s Health Regulation Department and Medical Tourism Office at the Dubai Health Authority.

Medical professionals, students, practitioners, administrators, managers and travel partners attending will learn about the latest developments in medical tourism and the globalisation of the healthcare industry. The DHRC is also being used as a platform for professionals in Dubai to discuss the implementation of a patient protection plan that will enhance the experience for visiting medical tourists.

The patient protection plan is a part of the regulatory framework introduced by Dubai health Authority to ensure implementation of patient centric strategy of the programme. The medical tourists should know their rights when undergoing medical procedures in the Emirate. The plan will simplify procedures for making a medical complaint, provide insurance coverage for medical tourists through a third party operator and ensure that patients are aware of the evaluation and approval of medical facilities in Dubai undertaken by DHA.

Commenting on the expected impact of the conference, Dr. Al Marzouqi said: “The Dubai Health Authority is proud to be hosting the second edition of the Dubai Health Regulation and medical tourism Conference in this year we have launched our innovative DXH programme. The conference will be an important event to ensure the continued growth of DXH and reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a global medical tourism destination.

“DHA has been driving the growth of medical tourism along with the DXH group which comprised of 32 healthcare facilities. This conference provides a platform for us  to hear from regulators, professionals, patients, researchers, policy makers, educators and others with an interest in the medical tourism industry and understand what can be done to make our global medical tourism offer even better for the future. It is another important step towards our goal of attracting 500,000 medical tourists by 2020.”

Linda Abdullah Ali Ruhi, head of Medical Tourism Office, added: “The Dubai Health Experience programme has been growing rapidly since we launched DXH in April 2016 and it has already proved a major stimulus to Dubai’s rapidly growing medical tourism industry.

“The DHRC Conference will be a catalyst to reinforce and strengthen connections between senior representatives in the travel and medical sectors. It will be an open and vibrant forum that will enable everyone to see just how hard we are working to grow the medical tourism industry in Dubai and our commitment to building effective long-term partnerships to achieve this goal.”

The two-day long conference will also include a keynote address from Dr. Al Marzouqi on medical tourism in Dubai and the Dubai Health Experience programme. A number of panel discussions will also be held to discuss best practices in medical tourism, as well as share global ideas and experience on medical tourism. - TradeArabia News Service
