Abu Dhabi received a record 4.4 million tourists in 2016, up 8 per cent when compared to the previous year in terms of numbers, data showed.

Bookings for hotels and other accomodations increased significantly last year, with the total number of nights booked reaching 12,031,628, said a report in WAM, citing data released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA)

The announcement was made after a meeting by companies from Abu Dhabi’s tourism and hotel industries, along with representatives of the tourism authority’s overseas offices.

India remained the top source market with a total of 323,388 visitors (up 15 per cent), while most European visitors in 2016 came from the UK (238,167 tourists), placing it second overall. China took the third spot with visitor numbers reaching 31 per cent.
