Bahrain firms 'must become tourism ambassadors'

Bahrain companies with a global presence must work to promote the kingdom as a major tourist destination and introduce the international guests to its touristic identity, said experts at the ongoing 46th Skal Asia Area Congress in capital Manama.

The Skal organization, a professional body headquartered in Spain, consists of senior members and experts in the tourism, travel, and hospitality industry within its club in Bahrain and international counterparts.

The event is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, the chief executive of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) at the Gulf Hotel till May 15.

It was attended by David Fisher, the president of SKAL International and Robert Sohn, the president of SKAL - Asian Area.

The conference will include a series of meetings that will give members an opportunity to discuss the latest trends in the tourism sector and the challenges faced in their countries, and also offer a platform for trade opportunities and potential partnerships.

The 46th edition has attracted around 120 members, including 70 from the Asian continent, as well as participants from Argentina, Canada and the United Kingdom, and 50 local businessmen.

Addressing the gathering, Shaikh Khalid said: "We are pleased to host the 46th Skal Asia Area Congress and it gives me great pleasure to welcome businessmen, experts, and members of the organisation from all around the world to participate in this conference."

"We are also honored to have the President of SKAL International and the President of SKAL Asian Area amongst us in this auspicious occasion," he stated.

“The event further affirms the role played by the Kingdom since joining this international organization and its continuous efforts to develop the tourism sector at local, regional and international levels,” noted Shaikh Khalid.

Mohamed Buzizi, the president of Skal Bahrain, also gave his welcome note during the opening ceremony.

"It is a pleasure to host the 46th Skal Asia Area Congress in Bahrain and we are very keen to welcome all our guests to the kingdom and introduce them to our touristic identity. This also comes as a great opportunity to showcase the strengths of the tourism sector in Bahrain which is expected to remain an integral part in developing and generating further growth within the economy," said Buzizi.

The event coincides with the 45th year anniversary of the Skal club since its inception in Bahrain in 1972.

The Skal club in Bahrain consists of a group of prominent businessmen committed to developing the tourism sector and strengthening its position on the world tourism map.-TradeArabia News Service
