Al Abraaj Restaurants diversifies culinary, retail portfolio

MANAMA, July 25, 2017

Bahrain’s homegrown hospitality group, Al Abraaj Restaurants Group, is diversifying its portfolio with new culinary concepts and nine new dine-in restaurants across the kingdom.

Today, with seven successful brands and 35 outlets including Al Abraaj, Mashawi Al Abraaj, Lumee, Al Bindaira, Nu Asia, YaSalam and TCBY, the group continues to advance in the restaurant sector, and will soon be venturing into the Italian-cuisine category in collaboration with the UK-based San Carlo Italian group of restaurants.

With three decades of serving traditional Middle-Eastern and International flavours to the Bahrain market, Al Abraaj Restaurants Group has enjoyed a growth trajectory with its homegrown brands while sustaining its dominant position despite changing trends. Over the last five years, the group built two new brands, Lumee and YaSalam and evolved its flagship brand, Al Abraaj, to introduce Mashawi Al Abraaj; and opened 10 outlets to expand the reach of these newly-established brands. In fact, the company has previously explored new territories with the launch of its YaSalam brand in Dubai.

This year, the group is making strategic inroads into a new mainstream cuisine category - Italian, with two new restaurants, Otto at Hamala Hills and San Carlo Cicchetti at Al Aali complex. Additionally, the group is expanding the reach of its existing brands by opening two new Al Abraaj dine-in outlets, two Mashawi Al Abraaj, two Al Bindaira Cafes, a Lumee restaurant as well as YaSalam! all within a span of next one year. The company will be investing $5 million towards expansion in the new Italian culinary offerings.

Hamad Rashed, director, Al Abraaj Restaurants Group said: “We have been a long-standing homegrown company that has built a complementing portfolio of brands offering authentic flavours and unique experiences, in line with customer demands. While we continue to build on our existing assets, we are now exploring collaborations with renowned groups such as the San Carlo group to leverage their expertise and redefine the Italian culinary experience in Bahrain,” he added further.

San Carlo, an award-winning restaurant group which operates successful Italian restaurants throughout the UK, including Manchester, Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds, and Leicester will soon be making its entry in Bahrain after proclaimed success in other GCC countries.

The company will also be extending its culinary support to Al Abraaj Restaurants group to launch Otto – an all-day dining Italian restaurant serving authentic cuisine with an exciting array of hand-made pizzas, flavorful pastas and an Italian inspired breakfast menu. Otto is scheduled to open its doors end-July.
