Neom airport welcomes maiden Saudia flights

JEDDAH, January 15, 2019

Saudi Arabia's Neom airport, part of the $500-billion futuristic city Neom, welcomed its first flights last week, operated by flag carrier Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), said a report.

A total of 130 passengers, employees of Neom, were flown to the megacity on two Airbus A320 planes, said a report in Arab News.

“We wanted our employees to experience the Neom project which they have been working to make a success since its inception last year. There is a big difference between knowing the details of the project in theory and visiting it practically, exploring its treasures, beauty, and heritage," the report quoted Neom CEO, Nadhmi Al-Nasr, as saying.

Neom, being built on northwestern part of Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea coast, forms part of the Saudi giga-projects investment pool for the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. The giga-projects are integrated economic ecosystems that will support the economic transformation of the kingdom and act as a catalyst for investment across various sectors.
