OHI Oman Amateur Open to offer WAGR points

MUSCAT, January 22, 2019

The OHI Oman Amateur Open, the highlight of Oman’s amateur tournaments, will this year become the first championship in the sultanate to carry World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

The World Amateur Golf Ranking, which is based on the players' average performances in counting events over a rolling two-year period, was introduced by the R&A, the governing body of the sport of golf outside the US and Mexico, in 2007.

Eihab Al Saleh, CEO of OHI Group, the title sponsor of the event, said: “We are immensely proud to sponsor Oman’s leading amateur golf tournament. The OHI Oman Amateur Open is unique as it not only offers the elite golfers an opportunity to compete to become ‘Oman’s Champion Golfer of the year’ but it has created a platform for the juniors to excel and learn from an early age how to compete at a young age."

The 2019 OHI Oman Amateur Open will be played at Ghala Golf Club on January 25 and 26, while the  OHI Oman Under 15s Open and OHI Oman Ladies Open event will be played at Ras Al Hamra Golf Club over the same weekend.

with the OHI Oman Under 15s Open and OHI Oman Ladies Open event played at Ras Al Hamra Golf Club. The Oman Under 12s Open will also be played at Ghala Golf Club, playing nine holes over 2 days.

The top eight golfers in the OHI Oman Amateur Open will then proceed to a match play knockout format over January 27 and 28. - TradeArabia News Service
