Bahrain is to turn its coasts into a public paradise of beaches and corniches, according to the kingdom's Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Minister Dr Juma Al Ka'abiit.

At least half of all future coastal developments will be devoted to public beaches and amenities, as part of a futuristic urban development blueprint.

A network of public corniches within private developments will run around the country's shoreline, creating a natural environment for the public to enjoy, pledged Dr Al Ka'abi.

They will offer coastal walks, shopping and restaurant promenades, he told delegates at the opening of the two-day Second Annual Water Front Development Conference.

'Many cities all over the world are improving their waterfronts, making them the most attractive parts of their urban development, something we also have in mind,' said Dr Al Ka'abi.

Last week, His Majesty King Hamad ordered that a 2km public beach be created in Galali, stretching from Amwaj Islands to a planned housing project. It will feature a marina club, walkways, cafes and restaurants, along with other facilities.-TradeArabia News Service
