Trump cancels Singapore summit with Kim Jong

US President Donald Trump will not meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next month in Singapore.

"I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting," Trump wrote in a letter to Kim released by the White House Thursday morning.

"Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place."

A senior US official told CNN the historic meeting in Singapore was canceled because they were not receiving any commitments from North Korea,

Another senior official said the main reason for White House canceling the June 12 summit was due to larger concerns about distance on big issues. Added to that was the comments from a senior North Korean official calling Vice President Mike Pence a “political dummy.”

Meanwhile in another development, North Korea has destroyed its nuclear tests site in Punggye-ri area,
reported Yonhap News Agency, of South Korea, citing some reporters who attended the event.

The Northern Korean authorities used dynamite to dismantle the site, located north-east of the country, before a number of handpicked media people from South Korea, USA, China, Russia and the UK.
