Abu Dhabi cancels permit of 'reckless' schoolbus driver

The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) announced that it had withdrawn a school bus driver's permit over reckless driving.

He was also accused of causing risk to the life of a student who was trying to cross the road on his wasy home in Al Falah residential area.

The reckless driver ignored the "stop" sign, on the school bus, which used to alert other drivers that a bus is dropping or picking up students, said a statement from the DoT.

As per rules, the vehicle drivers must stop and maintain a distance of at least five meters from other vehicles to ensure safe passage of students, it stated.

"But when the school bus had stopped as it waited for the supervisor accompanying the child to pass the road to his home, a speeding school bus suddenly approached the child before the supervisor managed to pull him out of harm's way just in time - saving the child's life," it added.

The DoT issued a warning to the employer of the bus driver and stressed on enforcing strict rules for school buses.

They urged him to fully comply with the law and regulations on school transport and ensure that the discipline is maintained by its drivers besides their professionalism and good behaviour.

The DoT called for the concerted efforts of all members of society to assume responsibility for themselves, the health and safety of others, especially schoolchildren.-TradeArabia News Service
