Tetra Pak in drive for low-carbon circular economy

Tetra Pak, a global food packaging and processing solutions company, is adopting a new approach to its operations across the value chain through an initiative urging industry stakeholders to move to a low-carbon circular economy.

This “Planet Positive”, movement represents a new way of thinking inspiring suppliers, customers and other businesses to come together to address the pressing global environmental issues of climate and waste, taking a broader view of sustainability, going beyond recycling and reuse to include the carbon impact of raw materials and manufacturing.

Khaled Ismail, vice president Communications - Europe, Central Asia, Middle East and Africa region, said: “The world is changing and our approach to sustainability has also changed over time. Today, it is no longer enough to assess and improve our impact on the environment. As part of the food manufacturing industry we have a duty to improve our practices in order to preserve our environment, our lives, and our planet. A circular economy is the way to go, and we, at Tetra Pak have integrated it in our business model it and are encouraging our customers to embrace it.”

“As a proof of our commitment, Tetra Pak has scored double ‘A’ by CDP for leading efforts against climate change and protecting forests. Only 2% of companies who pursued the reporting in 2019 received an A score for climate action, making Tetra Pak one of a small number of high-performing companies out of thousands that were scored.

“We are one of 179 companies recognized for actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop the low-carbon economy, and one of 8 companies working to prevent deforestation in supply chains via sustainable sourcing of key commodities that are linked to deforestation,” he added.
