The European Commission has urged member states to cut their use of oil and gas—especially in transportation—due to the ongoing energy crisis and the risk of supply disruptions linked to the war in the Middle East.
In a letter addressed to national energy ministers, Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen suggested that governments explore voluntary measures to reduce demand.
This recommendation comes ahead of an emergency meeting of EU energy ministers scheduled for Tuesday, where they will discuss strategies to manage the crisis.
Jørgensen also highlighted that rising costs and fuel shortages in Europe’s transport sector may push governments to encourage people to limit driving and air travel, preserving fuel for more critical needs. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
