Bahrain revokes nationality of 69 for acts of treason

Bahrain has revoked the nationality of 69 individuals who have committed acts of treason or undermined the Kingdom’s security and stability, said a statement.

The Bahraini nationality has been revoked from those individuals for glorifying or sympathising with the hostile Iranian acts, or engaging in contacts with external parties, said a Bahrain News Agency report.

The individuals are of non-Bahraini origin and the total number includes dependants, it said.

The decision is issued in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to take the necessary measures against those who have committed acts of treason or undermined the Kingdom’s security and stability, and to review those who merit Bahraini nationality and those who do not.

It also follows the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to maintain, and forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain the security and stability of the Kingdom, it said.

The measure was taken pursuant to Article (10/3) of the Bahraini Citizenship Law, which provides for the revocation of nationality "in the event of causing harm to the interests of the Kingdom or acting in a manner inconsistent with the duty of loyalty to it," and based on a submission by the Minister of Interior to the Cabinet.

The relevant authorities will take all necessary steps to implement the decision in accordance with the Kingdom’s laws. Authorities will continue to examine and review those who merit the honour of Bahraini nationality and those who do not, the report added.
