Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has become the first hotel in the Emirate to operate a fully functional biodigester system, marking a new milestone in its sustainability efforts and responsible tourism initiatives.

The advanced system uses natural microorganisms and oxygen to convert organic kitchen waste into greywater, reducing landfill waste, methane emissions, and the carbon footprint linked to traditional waste disposal methods.

The treated greywater is reused to irrigate the resort’s gardens and green spaces, creating a closed-loop resource management system.

The initiative supports the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority’s Food Waste Carbon Pilot Implementation and aligns with Sharjah’s vision for sustainable tourism.

The resort has introduced several environmental initiatives, including an on-site water bottling plant, organic garden, and energy and water conservation programmes.

Its sustainability efforts were recognised with the Sustain Sharjah Award at the Sharjah International Travel & Tourism Forum Awards 2025. -TradeArabia News Service
