Envision Energy, a global green technology company, has partnered with Sasol, an international energy and chemicals firm, to advance a design study for a potential green hydrogen system at Sasol’s Sasolburg operations in South Africa.
The collaboration aims to explore the integration of
renewable power, energy storage, and electrolyser technologies to support the
production of lower-carbon fuels and chemicals, including potential
applications in eMethanol and sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF).
The initiative was highlighted during a visit by South
Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, to
Envision’s Chifeng Hydrogen Net Zero Industrial Park in Inner Mongolia, held as
part of the South Africa-China Energy Investment Conference.
Drawing on Envision’s expertise in renewable energy, battery
energy storage systems, green hydrogen, and AI-powered energy management, the
study will assess how renewable generation, storage solutions, and
electrolysers can be combined to optimise hydrogen production based on energy
supply, market conditions, and operational needs.
Expected to be completed later this year, the study will
provide technical and commercial insights to guide potential future investment
decisions.
Sasol will evaluate how its existing industrial capabilities
and infrastructure can support its energy transition strategy and emerging
low-carbon market opportunities.
