Dubai Municipality has begun work on Dubai Creek Lights Project, an eight-kilometre waterfront lighting scheme, intended to highlight the area's historic, cultural and architectural landmarks while improving public spaces and extending activity along the waterfront after dark.

Designed to enhance the city's historic Dubai Creek area, the new project will see the installation of more than 5,000 lighting units across six locations along the creek, including Creek Quay, the Gold Souq promenade, the entrance to the creek at Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Historic District, Bur Dubai Souq and Al Seef Marina.

Dubai Municipality said the lighting scheme is intended to highlight the area's historic, cultural and architectural landmarks while improving public spaces and extending activity along the waterfront after dark.

The lighting will be visible from more than 1,500 ft above ground level, according to the municipality.

The project also includes upgrades to lighting along promenades, waterfront walkways, building facades and creek entrances. The municipality said the system will incorporate energy-efficient lighting designed to minimise environmental impacts on marine life.

The project forms part of Dubai's wider urban development plans under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, the municipality said.
