The US Department of Energy’s Office of Geothermal has launched the $300,000 Geologic Enhanced Mapping System (GEMS) Prize to help identify hidden geothermal resources.
The competition challenges participants to develop and test
algorithms using geophysical data to identify geological faults and structures
associated with geothermal systems and critical mineral resources.
Organisers said the initiative aims to accelerate the
discovery of commercially viable hidden geothermal systems while reducing
exploration and development risks through real-world data analysis.
The two-round competition is open to individuals and teams,
with prizes ranging from $15,000 to $100,000.
