Perpetual Next appoints Bilfinger to advance $1.2bn bioethanol project in Netherlands

Sustainable raw materials producer Perpetual Next has appointed international industrial services provider Bilfinger as Owner’s Engineer for the further development of its DeltaTorr and DeltaNor biomethanol projects in Delfzijl, the Netherlands.

The appointment marks a key milestone as Perpetual Next advances plans for a large-scale biomethanol production facility and works towards a Final Investment Decision (FID).

The Delfzijl project aims to produce biomethanol from sustainable biogenic residues, providing a lower-carbon alternative for industries including maritime transport and chemicals.

Bilfinger will support the project’s next development phase, helping coordinate partners and technical disciplines as the project progresses towards FID.

The full development could represent a capital investment of up to €1 billion ($1.2 billion), potentially strengthening the Netherlands’ and Europe’s position in the emerging biomethanol and sustainable fuels markets.

Domestic production is expected to support supply security and strategic autonomy as methanol gains importance as a sustainable fuel and chemical industry feedstock.

Rolf Bosma, Managing Director Perpetual Next, said: “The appointment of Bilfinger is an important step for the Delfzijl project. We are moving from project development towards a phase in which we bring the different elements together and work towards a Final Investment Decision. With Bilfinger’s expertise and our strong network of partners, we are building the foundation for a project that can have a significant impact on the transition towards more sustainable industry.”

Kevin Pieterse, President Consulting & Engineering Segments Western Europe and Central Europe at Bilfinger, said: “We are proud to partner with Perpetual Next on this landmark biomethanol project. By combining our integrated consultancy and engineering expertise with Perpetual Next’s vision, we are well-positioned to advance this development towards a Final Investment Decision. Together, we are contributing to Europe’s energy transition and strengthening domestic production of sustainable fuels.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
