Interpol removes warrant for ADCB bank chief

Abu Dhabi, June 5, 2008

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) chief executive Eirvin Knox said on Thursday Interpol had removed a notice seeking his detention.

"The Interpol notice on Eirvin Knox, Chief Executive Officer of ADCB, has been cancelled," Knox said in a statement. His lawyers have said the charges against him were baseless.

The notice is no longer on Interpol's website, according to a Reuters search.

The Interpol warrant for the US citizen Knox was related to allegations by his former wife and was not connected to the bank's operations, ADCB said last month.

The warrant was issued in the Philippines, where Knox once worked as the head of a bank, and relates to "a violation of an early 2004 (Philippine) act pertaining to violence against women and their children," Interpol sources told Reuters at the time.

Knox was taking legal action in the Philippines after Interpol sought his arrest in connection with allegations by his ex-wife, according to his lawyers last month.

Lawyers for Knox's former wife Maria Josefina del Gallego-Knox told Reuters this week that she was disputing the legality of their divorce and had not been served with any divorce decree.

They said the case against Knox was still pending in the Philippines. - Reuters
