Experts to debate on Oman's economy

Muscat, September 25, 2010

Oman Economic Review, in association with Capital Market Authority, is set to host a debate on Oman economy and the way forward for various businesses in the Sultanate on October 25.

Over 200 movers and shakers from Oman’s corporate sector, innovators in their profession, are expected to attend the annual 'OER Debate' to be held at the Muscat Securities Market.

According to the organisers, the debate will bring to fore some exciting viewpoints on the challenges and changes in the Sultanate.

Nima Abu Wardeh, presenter of BBC’s Middle East Business Report, will be moderator.

'This year's event has evolved into an integrated business symposium which encompasses the key themes that form the business environment of today and tomorrow,' said Sandeep Sehgal, chief executive of United Media Services.

“Carrying the theme ‘The way ahead – Road to Vision 2020’, the forum's discussions are expected to be dominated by the numerous socio-economic challenges facing the country,” he added.

The event is being organised under the patronage of Yahya Al Jabri, executive president, CMA. As part of the proceedings, the 'OER Top 20' companies in Oman will be awarded for innovation and leadership in their fields.

The event covers not only globalisation and economics, human capital, motivation and diplomacy but also has a strong focus on the future, examining a new age in leadership, the changing business landscape, and economic trends impacted by the slowdown in major world markets.

The diverse lineup of panelists will share key insights into the way businesses will have to shoulder new responsibilities dictated by the new age social environment they would be operating in, the organisers added.

The 'OER Debate and Awards ’09' was the first ever business forum in the Sultanate that brought together corporate leaders and policy makers for an in-depth debate and discussion on the current state of the Oman economy.

The high profile awards ceremony, recognising the largest corporates of Oman, was also the first ever public accolade for the top performing companies.-TradeArabia News Service
