Amwaj Gateway will be adopting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria for its new construction as part of its eco-friendly housing campaign.

A presentation was given at the Golden Tulip Hotel by Amwaj Gateway Project general manager Rizwan Mumtaz and Amwaj Gateway board member Hasan Al Mansoor.

"Our design consultants are committed to help the society overcome environmental challenges by implementing responsible standards," Mumtaz said.

"On face value, 'green' projects have helped reduce electricity bills by 20-40 per cent and water bills by 35pc.

"There are four types of certification for green housing projects ranging from certified to platinum.

"Amwaj Gateway should achieve silver certification and this could mean higher occupancy rates, which would lead to a 5pc premium for prices at the property."

"We think that introducing eco-friendly drive will be beneficial to everyone," Al Mansoor said.

"With energy-saving green products we hope to raise the level of our profile, raise the level of our marketing tools and raise our market value.

"We hope to reflect on the proposal of our mission to make it socially and environmentally sound. We expect the work done at Amwaj Gateway to usher in a new era of developments in and around Bahrain."

The green buildings designs are energy efficient, equipped with the latest technologies, have lower operating costs and increased asset value.

In addition to taking the lead in being the first project in green building design in Bahrain, Amwaj Gateway is also trying to create awareness about the benefits of green buildings through workshops being held for professionals in the fields of property development. -TradeArabia News Service
