EBS clinches Kuwait WTC deal

Dubai, October 15, 2008

Emirates Building Systems (EBS), a regional pioneer in the construction of high-rise steel buildings, has secured a Dh50 million ($13.5 million) contract for the construction of ‘Kuwait World Trade Center.’

EBS is a subsidiary of Dubai Investments Industries, the industry arm of Dubai Investments.

EBS was awarded the contract through Al Muhalab Contracting and Trading Company, with whom EBS has entered into a strategic partnership for its Kuwait operations.

Al Muhalab has been entrusted with executing all metal works on ‘Kuwait World Trade Centre’ by Sayed Hamid Behbehani and Sons Company, the general contractors for the project.

Located on Sour Street in Kuwait City, ‘Kuwait World Trade Centre’ will have a built-up area of 23,400 sqm. The project's construction is estimated to require over 5,000 metric tonnes of steel.

Commenting on the contract, Samir Akra, general manager of EBS, said, 'We are delighted to have secured the contract for Kuwait World Trade Centre, which is set to be one of the most sought-after commercial addresses in Kuwait City.'

'EBS has been aggressively building its presence in the Gulf region and beyond, and this new project in Kuwait further boosts our growth and consolidation strategy,' he noted.

EBS has been steadily expanding its regional operations by successfully executing several high-profile projects in the GCC, including ‘The Tower’ on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, and the ‘Almoayyed Tower’ and ‘Trust Insurance Tower’ projects in Bahrain.

EBS was also awarded a contract recently for construction of a new high-rise tower at Dubai Business Bay.

'Steel buildings are gaining popularity across the Arab world due to its strength, durability and fire-resistance characteristics, and several of the region’s leading developers have now been opting for steel structural frames,' Akra remarked.

'As the region’s premier manufacturer of steel structures, EBS is well-positioned to cater to this market demand and execute even the most challenging of steel building projects to world-class standards,' he added.

In order to cater to the increasing demand for steel structures in the Gulf region, EBS had recently completed the expansion of its factory in the UAE to boost its annual production capacity to over 75,000 metric tonnes.

EBS has also set up additional fabrication facilities in the GCC and the Indian subcontinent..-TradeArabia News Service
